Conflict prevention or provention to create a culture of peace?

We start from the neutral and positive conceptions of conflict to explore the differences and similarities between the concepts of prevention and provention. By means of a documentary analysis, the areas in which each originated are developed and then compared and contrasted. The results highlight that the similarities are that both imply preparation, availability or provision of resources and that they are learned through socialization. In contrast, both have a different perspective of the future, since prevention, considering conflict as a risk, danger or threat, seeks to avoid, evade or eliminate it, while provention, seeing it as an inherent part of human life, favors the learning of skills and strategies, as well as generating conditions to address it creatively and collaboratively. It is concluded that prevention and provention complement each other in the creation of a culture of peace, considering that the aim is to prevent violence, while provention, seeing conflict as an opportunity for social change, seeks to provide conditions, skills and tools, so that both processes can collaborate in the transcendent purpose of generating prevalently peaceful environments.
