Education and Dignity in Prison
Experience with people deprived of liberty

This research describes a higher education experience in prisons in Mexico City aimed at promoting the construction of a training model based on human dignity. The integrative method is used to provide a transdisciplinary view of the object of study, provide arguments within the development carried out and answer the questions raised. The discussion supports the importance of promoting in students deprived of liberty the discovery of recognizing themselves as genuinely autonomous beings and therefore with dignity, which is a basic driver of moral development. It is concluded that in incarceration, education is an effective means not only to mitigate grievance and mortification, but also to acquire cognitive and emotional strength. And also that, by placing the issue of human rights as a substantive part of the university training of students deprived of liberty, progress is made towards the construction of an educational model whose center is human dignity.
