The objective of the study was to examine the relationship between life skills (communication and conflict solution) and self-esteem in Mexican university students of the career in social work for the strengthening of more peaceful societies. So 179 students were surveyed. A correlation analysis was performed at a p≤.010 significance level among social skills factors with self-esteem. Positive and negative correlations were found, where it is evidenced that as adolescents find it more difficult to initiate conversations with others, they will feel less satisfied with themselves (-.302**), they will feel that they are useless (.336**), they will not feel that they are people worthy of appreciation (-.220**), so if they are wanted to mediate a fight they will think they have good qualities (.288**), they will feel that they can do things well (.276**), and they will have reason to be proud of themselves (.229**). Therefore, developing conflict resolution and communication skills programs for university students could increase the self-esteem of young people and contribute to peace in the society.
